Dearest Brent & Readers:
I saw this “joke” come down the wall on fb. My thinking was “not good to pray someone die” even though I have the same sentiments as you. If I may explain this further… I learned my lesson many yrs! In fact, morning of May 31st, 1978 to be exact!!! WHY? That particular morning for some reason, my brother & I had an arguement (which we NEVER did in all of my 15yrs). Thou that morning we did & I said, “I wished you’d die!” And very well meant it – thinking back now, I was probably afraid he’d leave me or something!?!? [more about him in a note on fb]

Yeppirs, you guessed where I’m going with this!!! 1978 JUN 01 0028 – Steven was killed… it took me MANY YEARS to not blame myself. End of my story & I’m sticking to it!!! Only in God, did I find healing in that one issue!!! He is Almighty Healer!!! : )

P.s. I should’ve learned long ago not to eat while reading something YOU wrote… LOL… however, focusing & quiet time IS while eating supper… yes, it a delicious ribeye going down but not coming up!!! ewwwwwwww… give me blood & guts but no boogers! UGH~~~~~~!

I actually have something else to throw in, I’ve been thinking about this a lot. First, though, I want to say that I agree with you, and the points you hit are THE most important. I hate how lightly we take God’s name, and I am so glad you wrote this!

My (certainly secondary point) as both an proud Army wife and the grand daughter of a Marine is that I do not find this joke funny because it is about the President. Not because it is about Obama (because I am NOT an Obama fan) but because he is the President. My Grandpa (a Lt. Col.) always told me that even if you can’t stand the PERSON, you respect the OFFICE. And that has stuck with me.

So, I have found this joke distasteful on two fronts (although, like I said, my point is certainly secondary!)

My first reaction was to laugh, and then I went, “Wow, that’s just so wrong.” I just felt it was disrespectful and the wrong attitude. I am not a Obama supporter, but I don’t go around talking trash about him either.
