Win a game by more than five points… and you lose. This is the idiotic but predictable result of the “self-esteem” nonsense that has infected our country over the last 30 years.
Canada is especially ridiculous in regards to this but in America we aren’t far behind with so many of our “no score, you’re all winners, everybody gets a trophy just for breathing, self esteem is the highest priority” era.
For everyone who sees no harm in this emphasis on self esteem, let me ask you to do this: compare the morality, discipline, maturity, productivity and respect of children 50 years ago to children of today. I rest my case.
Folks, we are HANDICAPPING our kids. No one gives a rip about your kids self esteem except you and maybe your kid if they have been preached “self esteem” often enough. “Real life” cares about: are you on time, did you work hard, did you produce, did you make it happen…? And gasp…. DID YOU WIN?
Self esteem, self love, self focus, self forgiven, self, self, self has replaced humility, deference, selfLESSness, competition, self-denial and rewarding accomplishment.
The latter qualities built the greatest nation in the history of benevolence, achievement and production. That former is dismantling that same nation at record pace.

Win a soccer game by more than five points and you lose, Ottawa league says
Excerpts:
In yet another nod to the protection of fledgling self-esteem, an Ottawa children’s soccer league has introduced a rule that says any team that wins a game by more than five points will lose by default.
The Gloucester Dragons Recreational Soccer league’s newly implemented edict is intended to dissuade a runaway game in favour of sportsmanship. The rule replaces its five-point mercy regulation, whereby any points scored beyond a five-point differential would not be registered.
Paul Cholmsky, whose four- and six-year-old boys play in the league, said the intended goal of a default-lose rule might backfire in teaching life skills.
“If there’s one team that’s consistenly dominant and one team that’s not, well, that’s life,” he said.
Mr. Cale said the league’s 12-person board of directors is not trying to take the fun out of the game, they are simply trying to make it fair. The new rule, suggested by “involved parents,” is a temporary measure that will be replaced by a pre-season skill assessment to make fair teams.

Sooo true Brent~I shudder about what we are doing to our kids in this nation. INSANE, purely!
This drives me crazy. We’ll stop giving kids grades in school soon, too. I’m actually bothered that Upward basketball does this (at least at my church). Seems like a missed opportunity to teach kids about being gracious winners and losers. Success and failure, victory and defeat will happen all through our lives. It is a sad thing that we don’t teach our kids how to handle it.
My son plays very competitive baseball at age ten. We have had some intense highs and lows. I would not trade the fun as well as the difficult “teachable moments” for anything. Punishing kids for doing well (losing if you win by too much) is ridiculous.
I wouldn’t want to live in the America that existed 50 years ago, when it was completely acceptable to discriminate against people based upon their race and gender. When it was okay to hit your wife, “if she really deserved it.” When it was just fine to tie a laboring woman down and commit acts that in any other context would be considered sexual assault.
Racism in ANY TIME is unacceptable to Christians, no matter what skin color is the racist or the victim. You exaggerate the bad of 50 years ago, while ignoring the good.
The fact is, every era has it’s evils. That’s humanity. But there is no arguing that America of today is more violent, more immoral and more against God. Not exactly something to long for.
