• Baby Jesus or Adult Jesus?

Note: this is a guest post from my friend Steve Cummings. You can write to him at: steve@tusculum.org In the movie “Talledega Nights”, Ricky Bobby played by Will Farrell, is sitting around the table with his family and he’s praying to “dear sweet baby Jesus.” His wife says to him, “Honey, you do know that the baby Jesus did grow up to be an adult don’t you?”  He replies, “I like the baby Jesus best.” Why do so many people like the baby Jesus more than the adult Jesus? I think I know why. I think it’s because baby Jesus makes no demands and doesn’t threaten their agenda. Adult Jesus demands one’s life. (Colossians 4:4.) The nativity scene is very deceptive to our understanding of who Jesus was [...]

  • World Famous Atheist Changes Mind About God

Yeah, I know. I’m really insensitive aren’t I. In reality, no I’m not. I’m sad for ANYONE who has to admit God exists when it’s too late to do anything about it. I have an atheist friend I’ve been emailing regularly who will face a similar revelation about God someday. I just hope she does it on this side of eternity. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, read here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-16212418 PS: WHAT ARE YOUR QUESTIONS FOR ME? Ask here. • Ways to Spend Time With Your Family, Even When Time is Short (Part 4)

–Philip J Reed, on behalf of Westwood College For the past two months, we’ve discussed an unfortunate reality of modern life:  a lack of time to spend with the family.  Obviously this is a problem that affects everybody to different degrees.  One family might lament the fact that it only gets a few nights per week to spend together as one cohesive unit, and another might be lucky to get even a few minutes together. In today’s world, it’s not uncommon that both parents work, and it’s certainly not uncommon that teenage children work as well.  Everybody has their own commitments – be they professional or personal – and getting all of the schedules to align can be tricky at best.  But that doesn’t have [...]

  • Jesus Alone

Jesus Alone My God, The common thread in Your Grand Plan, The chief aim of Your Undeterred Will, Is to glorify Your Beloved Son on earth And in heaven where He is now ascended. One day, all the saved will behold His magnificent glory And love Him, glorify Him and worship Him forever. I am only capable of loving Jesus but a little right now; I long for the day when a full portion will be mine. Today is just a beginning, a glimpse, a taste, Of the fullness in Christ that awaits us in eternity. You have allowed us to see Your Son, to know Him; Even if through a glass darkly now, we still Take Him, receive Him; Hear Him, possess Him; Worship [...]

  • Ways to Spend Time With Your Family, Even When Time is Short (Part 3)

–Philip J Reed, on behalf of Westwood College In a couple of previous posts, we discussed an unfortunate reality of modern life:  a lack of time to spend with the family.  Obviously this is a problem that affects everybody to different degrees.  One family might lament the fact that it only gets a few nights per week to spend together as one cohesive unit, and another might be lucky to get even a few minutes together. • My UnFaithfulness

2 Timothy 2:13 ~If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself. (NKJV; emphasis mine) This is one of the most comforting verses in Scripture. Think about it… God’s faithfulness does not depend on my faithfulness. God is the ultimate in faithfulness. His character is perfect so by default, perfectly faithful. It is His nature. That’s what it means by “He cannot deny Himself”.  God can no more be unfaithful than the sun can be dark or man can be perfect. God cannot deny what He innately is… and He is faithful. Faithless When we don’t prove to be faithful, God still is. And praise the Lord He is or we would be in big trouble on all levels of our lives both daily, and [...]
